Liam and the Llama
Liam and the Llama
By
Grandma
Baadsgaard
Happy
Birthday to a very special six year old. I love you Liam
Said Liam to the Llama,
“How are you today?”
“Why I am terrific
What else can I say?”
Said Liam to the Llama,
“You have such big long ears.”
“Yes, they look like bananas
Straight up and long spears.”
Said Liam to the Llama,
“You have such narrow feat.”
“They are great for dancing
The two-set can’t be beat.”
Said Liam to the Llama,
“Do you like to chew your cud?”
“Why I sure do and I also
Like to sit in mud.”
Said Liam to the Llama,
“Your fur is oh so soft.”
“If you spin and weave it
I make blankets for your loft.”
Said Liam to the Llama,
“Are you cousins with the camel?”
“We both like to chew our cud.
And our stories tend to ramble.”
Said Liam to the Llama,
“Do you hum babies to sleep?”
I like to nuzzle my wee ones)
So close our hearts will keep.”
Said Liam to the Llama,
“Why is your fur white, brown or black?”
“So I can make my wool into rugs.
Or a fine coat if you lack.”
Said Liam to the Llama,
“You’re so stout to pack my stuff.”
“Yes I’m strong and agile
And really pretty buff.”
Said Liam to the Llama,
“Will you be my friend?”
“You bet I will dear Liam
Right up till the end.”

Happy Birthday Sandy
There is something that draws us nearer.
We sense connection
to each other . . .
A yearning to
find the words
To give meaning
to experience . . .
Discover what
lies hidden inside us -
An inner longing
To share
Untold stories.
So we reach out
to each other
When miles keep
us apart.
Sometimes we are
afraid
To begin
For fear of
being judged.
That is when we
must hold each other’s courage . . .
Inspire each
other to write the first draft -
As if our words
will never be shown to anyone.
For each of us
has a story;
We all live
through something that changes our heart.
Sandy . . . if
there is a book you want to read that has not been written,
You must write
it.
If there is a
life you want to live, you must live it
Someday I will
find just the right way to tell you how much I love you.
Today
I must be content with words.

Happy Birthday Kate
by
Grandma Baadsgaard
Happy sixth birthday my
charming Katie
When you start kindergarten
It can be quite a scare
But if you face your worries
It’s an adventure if you dare
So fluff up your brave smile Katie
Smooth out your new duds and shoes
Walk right in that brand new classroom
Without a trace of the blues
For going to school for the first time
Can make your tummy feel tight
Then before you know it
There are new friends and recess delights
First you learn about your letters
Then your fingers and your toes
Next come your numbers my friend
And sitting in desks in rows
The best time is when your teacher
Gathers everyone all around
And reads a brand new book
You don’t even make a sound
Reading makes pictures alive in your mind
Gives you wings to fly in the sky
Then sometimes the stories are sad ones
That makes you breathe a sigh
Soon it’s time for recess
You blast out the door on the run
New friends are all around you
It’s time to swing in the sun
Then
you hear the last bell ring
And know it’s time to go home
Your mother’s big hug awaits you
No matter where you roam.
